Company History

The feedmill was initially built in 1973 and was operated by various different businesses, until becoming a Joint Venture between Ridley Agriproducts and Tableland Stockfeed Specialists (TSS) from 1 October 2004. 

TSS is owned by a local group of shareholders from the Atherton Tablelands area. On 16 March 2009 the TSS shareholders bought Ridley’s 50% share and the mill began trading as Advanced Rural.

These few words are so important in ensuring we supply quality feed and service to all of our customers.

Our challenge is to continue to strive for efficiencies that will enable Advanced Rural to pass these savings direct to our customers. As Advanced Rural continues to develop we are always aware to manage our expansion with the evolving needs of our customers, whom we regard as valued and strategic partners.

The Tablelands is a welcoming and community-based lifestyle. I feel so fortunate and privileged to have the opportunity to work and live in this region and look forward to growing personally and developing relationships at all levels.

Clayton Veitch

General Manager

Clayton joined Advanced Rural in March 2019 bringing with him 20 years of experience at management level in the stockfeed and feed milling industry.

Clayton has been entrusted by Tableland Stockfeed Specialists to manage their investment and grow the business alongside local businesses and to expand the Advanced Rural customer base and relationships. It is a challenging time, but a challenge that will ensure Advanced Rural is the first choice in animal feed in and around the Tablelands region.


Mark Stansby

Mark Stansby is originally from Calen, a small town north of Mackay. Mark moved to Brisbane to study Agriculture at the University of Queensland and after completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science Degree in 1991, found employment with Ridley Agriproducts, being Australia’s largest stockfeed manufacturer. Mark was based at the Wacol site in Brisbane for 9 years and was involved with all technical aspects of manufacturing stockfeed, birdseed and animal supplement blocks, loose mixes and liquid feeds.

Mark’s desire to get back to a rural lifestyle saw him move to Atherton in 2000, as a Territory Sales Manager with Ridley Agriproducts based at the Atherton Mill. Mark’s role in Atherton included the sales of bulk and bagged feeds from the Tablelands to Townsville and west to Mt Isa.

Following the formation of Advanced Rural in 2009 Mark was back formulating diets for Beef and Dairy Cattle, Pigs, Chooks, Horses, Goats and Red Claw. Mark still looks after sales and nutrition and is also involved with raw material purchasing.

Tim O’Sullivan

Production Manager

Tim completed his boilermaker apprenticeship at the Atherton Tableland Maize Marketing Board and remained there on the maintenance team. Tim was then employed by Ridley Agriproducts in January 1999 as the site fitter.

After a few years Tim moved into the Production Manager’s role and during this time has been involved in the joint venture between Ridley and TSS, then Advanced Rural from 2009.

Tim has enjoyed the challenges over the last 20 years and has developed valued relationships with local businesses, suppliers, customers and work colleagues. Tim looks forward to helping management establish a continuous improvement culture at Advanced Rural.

Finance Manager

Deborah started work at Advanced Rural in May 2009, not long after the business was formed from the joint venture between TSS and Ridley.

Deborah looks after all financial aspects of the business, including management reporting, payroll, purchasing, special order pricing and also oversees and assists with the general administration of the office.

Rosalie and Tina

Administration and Reception

Working in administration and reception, Rosalie and Tina’s roles are pivotal as they are at the coalface of phone and walk-in enquiries. Their friendly and happy attitude creates an enduring relationship with our customers, suppliers and community.
